Game lag on player join and high ping
I could not find a thread/issue describing this problem even though it exists for very long already, if there is one, please redirect me and close this issue.
So, the problems:
- When a player joins a netgame everyone in the server has to wait (presumably for a resynch).
- If one player in the server has a high ping, everybody lags.
I do not know much about netgame protocols (but I will do some reading), but I know that in other games, there is no waiting when someone joins, and having a high ping only results in lag for yourself, not for others. So I assume these are things that could theoretically be fixed (though it's probably a lot of work).
Maybe this thread could be used to discuss the reasons for the issue, where it is located in the code, discussing designs, who is working on what, keeping track of a TODO list, etc.
